Visit the renovated One&Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas

Even the most luxurious vacation properties sometimes need a refresh. The One&Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island off Nassau in the Bahamas has just revealed the results of a multi-million dollar renovation of the Hartford Wing, along with a new beachfront pool, bar and grill. Completed in collaboration with HKS Architects and design firm Jeffrey Beers International, the project revitalized the historic wing, which was the private estate of A&P heir Huntington Hartford II until 1962, when it became the Ocean Club (and opened with the Starry Ball of Paradise). Designer Jeffrey Beers, who recently breathed new life into One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico after the property was devastated by Hurricane Odile, drew inspiration from the property’s past and location. “Our desire was for the spirit of the resort, which was once a private estate, to retain its rich history while providing a fresh palette with hues drawn from the natural environment,” says Beers.

The wing’s 52 rooms and suites have been transformed and expanded during the five-month renovation. “We’ve increased the room size to 110 square feet, adding an expansive terrace or balcony, providing guests with views of the resort’s lush gardens and ocean, a first for the Hartford Wing,” says John Conway, general manager of the One&Only Ocean Club. . These panoramic views brightened the interiors, where a vibrant palette of sea blues and dark corals enliven the contemporary spaces lined with stone and wood. Bedrooms are appointed with custom furnishings, while bathrooms are accented with marble surfaces, rainfall showers, and double sinks. For Beers, the key to the design was to balance luxury and island lifestyle. “Rooms in the Hartford Wing are very individual and well-detailed, while still maintaining the essence of resort simplicity and comfort,” he says.

The amenities continue outside, with a redesigned courtyard and a 125-foot-long infinity pool. The oceanfront pool, the resort’s third, features food and drinks from the new Ocean Pool Grill, so guests can enjoy craft cocktails and local dishes from the comfort of their lounge chairs.
