October 7, 2021 – Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s help in locating two suspects in a shooting that took place in Ocean Park two weeks ago.
Police on Thursday released composites of the suspects described as two Hispanic men between the ages of 18 and 25 with Latino accents and “light to medium skin tone.”
The two suspects fled south on Neilson Way via Ocean Park Boulevard in an “older SUV, possibly a Sequoia, 4Runner or Tahoe,” said police department spokesman Lt. Rudy Flores.
The shooting took place around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22 near the corner of Ocean Avenue and Pacific Street.
The victim told police he was sleeping in his vehicle when the suspects “armed with a handgun and a taser, opened his door and demanded his car keys,” Flores said.
“A verbal altercation ensued” and “suspect #2 tasered the victim, then suspect #1 shot the victim in the face,” Flores said.
Suspect #1 is approximately 5’4″ to 5’7″ and weighs between 155 and 170 pounds, police said. He has a buzzed haircut and “fuzz on the upper lip”.
The suspect was wearing “an orange/yellow/reddish plaid short-sleeved button-up shirt (and) baggy dark pants//jeans,” police said.
He had a semi-automatic 9mm handgun, “medium tone” and with a barrel of about 6 inches.
Suspect No. 2 is approximately 5-foot-4 and weighs between 145 and 165 pounds, police said.
He is described as “flabby” with a “baby face” with no facial hair. Like Suspect #1, he sported a buzzy haircut.
He wore a dark or red jersey “crossover” top with dark lettering and dark-to-medium denim shorts and white tennis shoes, police said. He had a 5 inch black taser or a stun gun.
Anyone with information to identify and locate the suspects and the vehicle should contact Detective Nicole Murphy at (310) 458-8941 or email [email protected], Sergeant Art Williams at (310) 458-8475 or the shift commander (24 hours) at (310) 458-8426.
