As Jersey Shore’s first five-star luxury boutique hotel, the 54-key property is considered the crown jewel of iStar’s decade-long, multi-billion dollar redevelopment of a 1.25-mile stretch mile along the Asbury Park waterfront.
Built on a site abandoned by former developers for decades, the luxury building that houses the Asbury Ocean Club Hotel is a milestone for the city, New Jersey and the East Coast. The 17-storey tower sits calmly and confidently against the shore – a symbol of the new era it represents for Jersey’s iconic coastline.
“We are proud to deliver on our promise to the community, bringing to life a site that has stood vacant for over 30 years and has remained an eyesore in the city for far too long. We are now breaking ground on a world-class building that is the first of its kind in the region,” says Brian Cheripka, senior vice president of land development at iStar.
Bringing together a roster of talent behind some of the world’s most iconic hotels, Asbury Ocean Club Hotel offers top-notch amenities including an ocean-view pool and deck, relaxing spa, fitness center state-of-the-art form by bespoke fitness brand, The Wright Fit and The Drawing Room, an awe-inspiring “glass house” located at the heart of the property serving as an all-day, year-round retreat.
With 11-foot floor-to-ceiling windows, each room includes expansive terraces that offer stunning views of the Atlantic or the sand dune landscape.
Local partners such as Asbury Park Distilling Co., Maiden Coffee and Asbury Park Brewery play a vital role in the property’s culinary offering. A public market and a gourmet restaurant run by a renowned chef are set to debut on the ground floor in 2020.
iStar’s early projects will account for more than 20% of the city’s overall property tax revenue, and the developer has been a powerful force in bringing jobs to the Asbury Park community.
Through Salt Hotels’ acclaimed hospitality training program, Salt School, nearly 300 locals have received free training from in-house renowned hospitality leaders, 80% of whom have found employment at the Asbury Ocean Club Hotel and in other iStar projects.
The training program is a testament to iStar’s investment in the community, which includes contributions with vendor partners totaling more than three-quarters of a million dollars to local organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County.
