Marriott Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s Ocean Park has finally welcomed its first hotel since it opened more than four decades ago. Prudence Lui settles into this highly anticipated property with her teenage daughter and finds a destination that will delight all ages

Site
Nothing beats its location. The property is right next to the entrance to Ocean Park and a stone’s throw from the eponymous MTR station. Since there are walkways connecting the Ocean Park station to the hotel, there are no traffic hassles as it took me less than five minutes to cover the distance.

Since the MTR connection to the south of Hong Kong Island debuted a few years ago, it has provided visitors with additional means of access other than traditional buses. Travel time from Admiralty Station to the park now takes just four minutes.

The hotel is also located near hiking and jogging trails that run through some of Hong Kong’s finest coastal and countryside parks.

Rooms
Rooms at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel are spread across three eight-story towers.

My daughter and I stayed in the twin bed, 29m2 Marina Wing Premium Room overlooking the pool. The room was done up in an ocean theme, and even my teenage daughter was delighted with the creative take on the aquatic decor as she tried to count the number of fish designs – seen on the wall panels by the bed and bathroom – she could choose. I noticed there was no sharp furniture in the room, so kudos to a child-friendly design that is indeed equipped for families.

I loved the abundance of USB and electrical outlets on the walls, which easily accommodated the many electronic gadgets I brought. I thought it would be more convenient if there was an extra wall socket near the coffee/tea corner as I preferred to make my two coffee capsules while boiling hot water simultaneously.

In addition, the hotel also offers 14 themed rooms especially targeting families with children with their animal motifs – think Whiskers Submarine (Ocean Park’s mascot sea lion), Bao Bao Paradise (panda) and Redd Forest (red pandas). ).

Facilities
It was during the pre-opening period of the hotel when I stayed there, so the Central Lagoon was not yet open. Its scheduled opening is today (February 19).

The 1,410 m landscaped2 The pool has an upper pool for practice laps, as well as toddler and kiddie pools for families with young children. Along with the 24/7 fitness center, there’s also a Harnn Heritage Spa on-site whose opening date is still unavailable at press time.

As a city resort hotel under the Ocean Park umbrella, don’t miss the iconic 16-meter floor-to-ceiling aquarium that spans three floors of the hotel.

For large groups, a dedicated check-in area is provided.

restoration
There are four F&B options spread throughout the property. The Marina Wing where I stayed offered all-day access to the 171-seat Marina Kitchen & Marina Café and the 126-seat Pier Lounge & Pier Bar.

My breakfast at the Marina Cafe on a Sunday morning was spiced up by the appearance of two characters from Ocean Park, which was clearly a fun time for the kids and adults who lined up for the photo shoot.

In the Club Wing, there is a 92-seat Canton Bistro for classic Cantonese cuisine, as well as a 118-seat steakhouse called Prohibition Grill House & Cocktail Bar.

A service
Friendly and very responsive. I only realized that I left my jacket in my room after checkout. I called the hotel to check and within 15 minutes I received both a call and an email asking what would be the best way for me to get my stuff back.

Verdict
It is not only ideal for families and multi-generational travelers, but also for FITs and business travelers, as the Club Wing offers an elevated experience.
