Space and light, calm and relaxation, ocean and sun: Asbury Park feels like nowhere else, and the experience continues through the doors of the Asbury Ocean Club. A remarkable list of global design talents have come together to create Asbury Ocean Club. Et un Andreichairman of Anda Andrei Design, who has worked on some of the world’s best-known boutique and lifestyle hotels (11 Howard, Royalton, Hudson, Gramercy Park Hotel + Residences, 40 Bond Street in manhattan and the Delano in South Beach) is iStar’s Creative Director and Design Director for the revitalization of Asbury Park. Its collaborators include Handel Architects (The Dream Downtown Hotel in manhattanRosewood Hotel in Abu Dhabi); Bonetti Kozerski Architecture (Public Hotel New York, PACE Gallery); and garden designer madison cox (Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech, Garden of Life at the Aga Khan Center in London). Steven Kamali of reception house, an international food and beverage consulting firm (Baccarat, Equinox, Four Seasons, Moxy Hotels, W Hotels) was engaged to help develop a food hall, market and dining concept.
“It is impossible to find a place so close to New York City, on the ocean, with incredible buildings of great architectural significance, incredible history and soul, and a major music scene,” said Andrei. “With Asbury Ocean Club, we strike a beautiful balance true to the seaside living – luxurious without being pretentious, relaxed and chic – the elegance of timeless materials in a modern and contemporary setting. It’s unlike anything in the area, the building feels like it belongs on that beach.”
Asbury Ocean Club was designed to both reflect and enhance its surroundings. The 17-story building offers panoramic views that transport mind, body, and soul to this city by the sea. The experience begins in the dramatic double-height lobby, anchored by a reception desk set against polished concrete walls and oak slats. Residences offer a select collection of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments with east-facing ocean-facing terraces that wind north or south and offer endless coastline views. Two penthouses have even larger kitchen and living areas, including rooftop terraces with outdoor kitchens that also include living and dining space.
“We opted for an open, light and airy vernacular beach house, and we kept materials simple – concrete and glass with wood accents,” said Gary Handeldirector of Handel Architects. “The balconies extend to accentuate the horizontal quality of the views. We then added a gentle curvature to the building to reflect the shoreline.
The interior design shines with luxurious finishes and world-class amenities; the result is sunny indulgence. Each unit celebrates the waterfront with a wraparound deck and floor-to-ceiling windows, and includes high-end amenities, such as:
- Fully Miele kitchen appliances, plus washer and dryer
- White Lacquered Custom Cabinets by Spazzi from Italy
