A luxury hotel in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park will receive its first guests in early 2019 after being delayed for about six months, according to its developer.

Peter Lam Kin-ngok, chairman of the Lai Sun Group, which developed the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott, said on Monday the HK$5 billion ($641 million) hotel would undergo tests and trials at the over the next two to three months before its official opening. .

The 471-room hotel was due to open in June but was delayed for several reasons, including its cash-strapped contractor, Lam said without giving further details.

The hotel, located next to the Ocean Park MTR station, includes an approximately 14,000 square foot ballroom that can accommodate at least 80 tables for a banquet. This would make it one of the largest and newest hotel facilities for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

The Marriott is one of two upscale hotel projects at the Wong Chuk Hang theme park, the other a Fullerton hotel, slated for completion in 2021. A $2.9 billion water park attraction HK is expected to open late next year. .
